REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and restriction of Chemicals) represents the European Union's legal framework for chemicals. Regulation (EC) no. 1907/2006 on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) requires the manufacturer or importer to register chemical substances with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The classification and labeling of chemicals is prescribed by Regulation (EC) no. 1272/2008 on classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP) and is based on a globally harmonized system. In order to ensure the safe use of chemicals, clear information is needed about the possible hazardous properties that the substances may have. The classification and labeling of certain hazardous chemicals is harmonized to ensure appropriate risk management across the European Union.
